In January last year our daughter was born. Hooray. Now we could finally relax!
As I left my job as Manager, Industry Engagement, at one of Australia’s top university’s, I reflected to my colleagues and friends on a time of great change and 12 months’ frenetic activity.
Presenting some of these to make my point, the list just got bigger and bigger.
I had relocated office three times, transferrred from marketing to a more one-on-one business development position which was based around presenting opportunities and building relationships between the university and some of Australia’s largest and most well-known industry associations, government and corporate organisations.
In the midst of all this activity, my partner and I got engaged, organised and travelled interstate for our engagement party, began planning a wedding, moved house, celebrated his Australian citizenship (a proud moment), bought a house, sold our existing home, celebrated a family wedding, went overseas for some ‘time out’, helped my parents buy an investment property (incidentally the same day we auctioned our house), moved house and started wholesale renovations on the new property – completed just in time for Christmas and the new baby’s arrival.
If only I had been given a gift of an oak tree for every one of the major life events, I would have a forest in my name – think of how this could benefit the environment!
